…and After

I am happily engaged living in my first purchased house with a great job extremely close to home. Everything in my life has been such a gift and a wonderful accomplishment that I hold dear to my heart. I am however still overweight and continue hear those fat insults. They’re not spoken aloud, instead those comments from sixth grade have become my fat mantras. They blast in my mind the moment I lock the dressing room door behind me or see my full body reflected in a mirror or any shiny surface I encounter every day.
Every.
single.
day.

But this is going to end.

A few weeks ago I attended my first yoga class and it was the first time that I was proud of what my body can do. Since then I have been incorporating my yoga practice into my everyday life even if it’s just 15 minutes in our spare bedroom with the cats nudging my legs, arms, and fingers. I have noticed a difference in my flexibility and muscle capacity, which really encourages me to keep going in my practice.

Andrea and I both are making a commitment to ourselves to get into shape and lose the weight. With meal plans from a nutritionist we are taking the next step to a healthier future together. We’ve found that with our crazy schedules and love for take out that the life we were living was far from healthy. I am so thankful to have Andrea to support me as we take on this challenge head on together.

While I am not particularly looking forward to our initial weigh in and measurements we will take today I cannot wait to look back and see just how much I accomplished. The before … and after.

My goal is not to be skinny, but to be strong. It’s not about losing weight, it’s about feeling healthy. I’m ready to replace my insult mantras with confidence. Little victories bring the greatest satisfaction because it’s a reminder achievement is possible.\

  1. Those “insult mantras” can be very powerful, but we can definitely replace them with something more positive and thereby make wonderful changes in our lives. Thank you for sharing your experience! 🙂
